Urology Outpatients

Treatment Clinic

Nurses and admin staff in Urology Outpatients worked together to turn a 'hectic clinic' into one that is calmer, more organised, and more timely for patients.  They reorganised the patient mix in each clinic and gave appropriate times for each appointment type.

The resulting benefits are:

  • A 50% reduction in the number of nurses required to run the service.  This nursing capacity is being used in other services within the department.
  • The last patient on every list during the trial was seen on time or early.

Flexible Cystoscopy Service

Doctors, nurses, managers, and administrators worked together to standardise and simplify the scheduling of flexible cystoscopy appointments.

The resulting benefits are:

  • Three hours less admin time required per week.
  • Reduction in variation for appointment lengths.
  • Decrease in typical patient visit time (80% of patients are now seen in 75 minutes or less, down from 93 minutes).
  • Increased staff satisfaction of how clinic lists run.
  • Improved clinical information on clinic lists.
