Project Management Workshop for Medicines and Pharmacy Services

Background

The PMO team were approached by representatives from the Medicine and Pharmacy Services (MAPS) care group for support with a programme to improve the outpatient admin services across the Care Group.

In addition to dedicated project management support, it was identified that there was a need for a series of workshops to build capability and awareness of basic project management principles across the care group. Representatives from the PMO team worked with representatives from the MAPS team to design a package of two workshops.

Assessment

The design process involved determining the desired outcomes of the sessions, assessing the knowledge levels of attendees and ensuring the content catered to different learning styles and preferences. The content was also linked to the Trust wide outpatients programme.

Diagnosis

The first workshop gave a basic outline of project management principles including scoping, planning, stakeholder management, risk management and role responsibilities.

The second workshop was much more tailored to the outpatients’ programme, with a significant amount of time dedicated to using project management principles to develop programme documentation and actions which could then be built on after the workshop. Both workshops lasted approximately 3 hours and were delivered within the same week in order to ensure continuity.

The workshops were received very positively by attendees and were described as useful and informative. This is reflected in the positive feedback received. The PMO team can now offer these tailored workshops to other teams across the Trust who need to build capability around project management.
